In May of 2025, Bar traveled to Detroit, MI to participate in IECA's Annual Conference. With over 1,300 participants this is the country's largest gathering of independent educational consultants, colleges, schools and programs. Bar presented at the conference during Therapeutic Community Event discussing the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, and IECA's support of the act, research going on in the residential treatment world, and the effects recent federal cuts have had on adolescent mental health.
Additionally Bar attended numerous educational sessions, was a participant on both the school fair and therapeutic information swap and was the proud recipient of the Mark H Sklarow Excellence in Advocacy Award granted by IECA's Board of Directors. All in all, an amazing 3 days!
In November Bar was lucky enough to join 8 other consultants and participate in a boarding school tour of 7 wonderful and unique campuses in MA, VT and NH. Additionally he participated in a "Speed Dating" event with admissions and clinical representatives 13 LD schools in beautiful Beverly, MA. His time on the campuses of all 8 schools (he snuck in another tour during the speed dating event) was both educational and engaging. It is visiting schools and programs and getting to know who is actually working with students that separates IECA Consultants many others.
In October, Bar travelled to beautiful Newport, RI to take part in the New England Regional NATSAP Meeting. Over the course of three days, he was able to participate in a fundraiser for the Sky’s The Limit Fund while enjoying a day of golf with colleagues and friends, participate in numerous educational sessions, and learn about some new programs and services offered in our field.
Overall it was a very educational and worthwhile experience, one which allowed Bar to develop new professional relationships and learn about important trends in our field.
Bar continues to travel and learn. This past May he toured three schools and programs, earned 10.25 CEU's and lead two presentations at the IECA Annual Conference. Both sessions were focused on the the changing nature of our clients, their families, our roles in assisting them and of the general field of education. Additionally, Bar was lucky enough to co-host a community event attended by over 150 colleagues on adolescent mental health.
It is these types of learning opportunities which make being a therapeutic and educational consultant such a rewarding profession.
