BAR CLARKE,
Founder, President
Bar Clarke has spent the last 30 plus years working with adolescents and young adults. A graduate of Marlboro College, Bar started his teaching and dorm parent duties at The Deck House School in Edgecomb, ME. After 3 years in Mid-Coast Maine, Bar then traveled to the Maru-a-Pula School in Gaborone, Botswana where he ran the Drama department, taught English, coached various sports and did a serious amount of traveling for 3 years. The opportunity to come back home and restart his beloved Deck House was too much to turn down, and in 1996 he returned to the States to help revive the school. While there he served in a variety of capacities; teacher, admissions coordinator, Assistant Headmaster and Headmaster. It was after a wonderful 8 years at Deck House that the opportunity arose for Bar to join an established educational consulting firm based in Westport, CT. During his 5 years as Director of Special Needs Services with Camille M. Bertram Educational Consultants, Bar visited hundreds of traditional schools, therapeutic schools, RTC’s, wilderness programs, drug and alcohol rehab facilities and young adult programs, and has worked with hundreds of families.
Since leaving Bertram in 2009, Bar has served as the Executive Director of an adolescent therapeutic boarding school, Program Director of a men's extended care program, Head of School at The Deck House School and launched Loeta as his own independent consulting firm. In addition, he has served on the Board of Directors for the American Friends of the Maru-a-Pula School, The Deck House School and the Independent Educational Consultants Association. Additionally, Bar has sat on the Strategic Planning Committee for IECA, and is currently the Chair of IECA's Therapeutic Committee.
In his role as president of Loeta, Bar continues to visit programs and schools nationwide, and had broadened his range of services to include life and recovery coaching. When not working Bar can be found spending time with his family, wife Lauren and 4 children, and traveling. His passions include endurance racing, spending time on the water and his beloved Red Sox.
